How We Started

Oak Hill Gun Club started in the late 1960's, throwing clay targets in the back corner of a farmers field south of Portland, MI. We became a non-profit club in 1970.

In 1980 we were approached by the Westphalia Gun Club, who lost the lease on the property they were shooting on, and asked if we would be interested in merging.

In 1981 we moved to our present site where we started with one trap field, 5 acres and about 70 members. We presently sit on 40 acres and have over 260 members. All memberships at Oak Hill are "Family Memberships".

We have a nice clubhouse, 4 trap fields, 1-5 stand field w/ 8 traps, 12 pistol bays and a 300 yd rifle range with berms at 200, 100, 50, and 25 yrds.

We are the Home Club of the Portland Highschool Trap Team and Portland St Pats Trap Team and host registered shoots with ATA, USPSA, ICORE and Steel Challenge.

CPL classes as well as other shooting classes and Hunter Safety are offered periodically. We are a busy little club.

We are currently open to the public on Wednesday evenings, 6 to 8 pm and Sunday mornings 9 am to 1 pm.
